Best Of Armory 2011 (Just Like Magic)

with 8 comments

ENGLISH: I only had time to see a small slice of The Armory Show (for example managed to miss Damien Hirst) and I’m not an art expert either, but there was one piece that touched me a little extra. In a mirrored room in the middle of the gigantic hall was a garden of trees, just ordinary, blossoming trees – or so I thought. It turned out that each tree had the potential to grow 40 different types of fruit, from peach, plum, cherry, nectarine and apricot. The artist Sam Van Aken has managed to put different sorts into one tree –  like magic or a fairy-tale (good or bad is up to the viewer). Among his sculptures in the “New Edens” were also orchids and vegetable plants growing combinations like cucumber/tomato. The evanescent pieces were only 25 bucks, but I didn’t carry any cash. In the future he’s working on a tree that will grow hundreds of different fruits!

Den här skunken luktade Chanel No 5 / This skunk smelled like Chanel No 5.

I wanted one of these, but have already forgotten the name of the artist. Do you know?

    • I’m really sorry, I don’t, there were to many of them! I think the gallerist said it was by artist Javier Tellez, but I’m not sure that makes sense. Good luck!
